The 2026 Humber Renewables Awards once again highlighted the vital role the Humber plays in the UK’s energy sector. The awards celebrate the organisations and individuals whose work delivers real benefits for the region’s communities, economy and future workforce.
This prestigious event, held in partnership with the Offshore Wind Connections conference, showcases why the Humber region is the UK’s Energy Estuary.
We’re proud that four Humber Energy Board (HEB) members were recognised at the event, and three took home awards for their outstanding contributions to the region.
A total of 10 awards were presented during the awards ceremony, held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Hull.
Huge congratulations to RWE for its incredible achievements in the renewables industry and taking home half of the awards on offer.
The company secured five awards, including Large Business of the Year; Offshore Wind Company of the Year; Renewable Energy Project of the Year for the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm; and Health & Safety for its Personal Choice Programme. In addition, Alisha Doughty was recognised as Apprentice of the Year.
RWE was shortlisted for nine of the 10 awards available, being named as a finalist for Education Programme of the Year; Leader of the Year; Innovation of the Year; and the Skills & Training Award. RWE’s success reflects both the scale of its operations and its ongoing investment in people, projects and innovation within the region.
Congratulations to HEB member Phillips 66 for winning the Education Project of the Year award for its Humber Refinery mentoring programme. The programme, now in its second year, includes one-to-one mentoring for Year 10 students at Engineering UTC Northern Lincolnshire and Oasis Academy Immingham. Phillips 66’s volunteers have helped the students build confidence while strengthening their resilience.
Well done to Ørsted on winning Innovation of the Year for the Hornsea 3 Uncrewed Surface Vessel. Designed to operate without a crew, the vessel delivers a range of benefits, including extended time offshore, reduced fuel consumption, enhanced data collection, a lower carbon footprint and minimal impact on the local marine environment.
HEB member Ørsted was shortlisted for four awards, including the Health & Safety Award; Apprentice of the Year; Innovation of the Year; and Skills & Training Award. This acknowledgement highlights Ørsted’s passion for driving positive change within the region and local communities.
While Drax didn’t win an award, the company was shortlisted for the Skills & Training Award, which recognised its work in delivering education-to-career pathways through STEM education, work experience, skills training, and apprenticeships
A huge congratulations to the successful HEB members and all the other winners and finalists. They showcase the depth of expertise, innovation and community engagement within the Humber.
More than an awards ceremony, the event highlighted how the region continues to lead the way in creating opportunities, supporting communities and shaping the future of renewable energy in the UK.
