‘The Humber's energy sector creates opportunities and brings people together’

People Powering the Humber – Senior Stakeholder Engagement Advisor Lauren Little

Next in our “People Powering the Humber” series is Ørsted’s Lauren Little, who shares why the Humber is not only a great place to build a career, but also a fantastic place to call home.

As a member of Ørsted’s Stakeholder Engagement team, Lauren works closely with projects and initiatives that deliver meaningful benefits to communities. We caught up with Lauren at the 2026 Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k & Family Fun Run.

Now celebrating its 11th year, the Great Grimsby 10k has enjoyed Ørsted’s support since the event began. As headline sponsor, the global leader in offshore wind energy is committed to helping the event grow and improve year after year, creating an even bigger impact for participants and the wider community

Here, Lauren explains how the event once again showcased the power of community and also the role the Humber’s energy sector plays in helping the region thrive.

Supporting communities and local good causes

“The Humber is known for its major energy projects which power the UK, but, for me, one of the most important things about working in the sector is the opportunity to support the communities that make this region such a great place to live.

“I’ve worked at Ørsted’s East Coast Hub in Grimsby for the past eight years, helping to build relationships between our business and the people who live and work here. During that time, I’ve seen first-hand how the energy industry can create opportunities, support local good causes and bring people together. One of the best examples of that is the Ørsted Great Grimsby 10K.

“This year marks the 11th race. What started as a local race has become one of the biggest events in the area, attracting thousands of runners and supporters every year.

“We’ve got some fantastic charities involved, including Horizon Youth Zone, which received the biggest single community donation Ørsted has ever made.”

“When you get to the finish line, the atmosphere is absolutely electric. People are cheering each other on and celebrating together. All around the route, you’ll see local residents outside their homes with signs, supporting friends, family members and colleagues. It’s brilliant!”

The Humber is full of opportunities and potential

“The same community spirit that makes the Grimsby 10K so special is one of the reasons I believe the Humber is such a great place to build a career.

“The Humber is an amazing place to work in the energy sector because there are so many different career paths to choose from. It’s also a great place to live. That sense of community is something you really feel here.

“Events like the Grimsby 10K are only one example of the positive impact energy companies have in the region. Across the Humber, businesses are supporting local initiatives, investing in skills, and helping to create opportunities for future generations.

“Companies like Ørsted care about the communities we operate in because we’re here for the long term. Our workforce lives here, and our future workforce lives here too.”

Investing in the region and its people

“When companies invest in this region, they’re investing in people. They’re supporting partnerships and helping projects that bring real benefits.

“Supporting local communities is something that matters deeply to me because it’s one of the ways the energy sector can create a lasting impact beyond jobs and infrastructure. When race day arrives, that sense of community is impossible to miss.”
